I began playing drums at the age of 9, but I seriously got into music when I fell in love with the electric guitar at the age of 15. At 19 I wanted to become a trumpet player. I picked up the cavaquinho in year 2000, together with brazilian percussion, the same year I enrolled in a school of luthiery in Ikaalinen, Finland. After graduating as an Artesan of Luthiery I took part in building a wooden ship, Österstjärnan. After this one year course I set out to work professionally with wooden boats. Three years of woodworking took me from building interiors of boats through restoring historical wooden villas to making furniture for hotels. At the same time I continued playing brazilian music and became ever more busy with it.In 2006 I entered the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki to study Folk Music. After three years of studies I took a year of exchange at the World Music Academy of Codarts in Rotterdam. I finished my Bachelor during that time and decided to stay in Rotterdam, where I lived for four years. In 2012 I continued my passion for building instruments and I produced a small series of cavaquinhos. Since then I have a small workshop where magic continues to happen. In the autumn of 2013 I moved to Lisbon, Portugal, where I mostly make custom builds. I love to experiment with new ideas and create new instruments.
Making and playing musical instruments are essential to my life. There is not one without the other. The focus is different for each activity and this keeps the mind fresh and ready.

Building an instrument is a beautiful thing to do. It requires patience and humility. It is like learning who you are again and again.
Building things and taking things apart in order to understand how they work has always been a passion for me. My father was an engineer. But it is especially working with wood that gives me the most pleasure: the smell of it in the workshop, the feel of a smooth planed surface, the sound of a sharp blade cutting precisely, the look of the wood under a bright finish that brings out the details in the story of its fibers. The art of constructing something which later will produce the sound of music is a fascinating process. It involves theory, mechanics, craftmanship, esthetics and a lot of instinct and creativity.I make instruments for custom orders specified by the client and I build instruments that let the creativity flow, experimenting with my own new ideas. Sometimes I make small series of a particular instrument but for the most part what I do is one of a kind projects. Repairing and doing maintenance on musical instruments also gives me much pleasure and is an important part of the work.
